今や、女性の11人にひとりがかかると言われる「乳がん」、10月は乳がんに関する正しい知識を広め、セルフチェックや検診の大切さを広く伝える乳がん防止月間です。今日は、breast cancer survivor である女性たちの言葉を通して学びましょう。

今日の動画は短いので、全てを聴いてみましょう。5名の女性が語る乳がん患者としての経験、まずは最初のふたりです。（　　）の中を書き取ってください。

Sarah (5-year survivor) : And I knew that breast cancer wasn’t gonna be what ( 　1 　) me but it was gonna be what changed me for the ( 　2　 ) of my life. サラ（5年のサバイバー）乳がんであることが私の全てというわけではないと分かっていました。でも乳がんは私の人生を変えてしまうだろうということも分かっていたのです。

Tina (5-year survivor) : …..Oh, It’s …..It’s changed everything. It’s really given me a sense of ( 　3 　) and then it’s just built a network of other pink sisters going (　 4　 ) it that we just face these challenges together.　ティナ（5年のサバイバー）ええ…乳がんは全てを変えました。目的意識が得られましたし、乳がん患者仲間＝ピンクシスターとのネットワークも出来ました。彼女たちと一緒に問題に立ち向かうのです。

Mary Ellen (5-year survivor) : I was able to ski 90 days this year and I played pickleball about four days a week.　メアリーエレン（5年のサバイバー）1年に90日、スキーをやり、1週間に4日、ピックルボールもやりました。

Sarah (5-year survivor) : （　　　　　　　　　　　5　　　　　　　　　　　　）サラ（5年のサバイバー）たくさん笑って、あまり悩まず、一瞬一瞬を楽しんでいます。

動画の最後です。乳がん12年の経験をもつリサさんと、7年になるシャノンさんです。

Lisa (12-year survivor) : The advances in the research has been just (　　6　　). It is a serious disease but it can be overcome. リサ（12年のサバイバー）乳がんの研究は驚くほど進んでいます。深刻な病気ですが、克服できる病気なのです。

Shannon (7-year survivor) : I’m not afraid to try something new and I’m not afraid to ( 　7 　) my hair purple and I’m not afraid to travel somewhere and meet new people and do new things and things that would have (　　 8　　 ) me. They don’t scare me anymore because I’m fighting cancer and I’m ( 　　9　　 )it.　シャノン（7年のサバイバー）新しいことに挑戦することは怖くありません。髪の毛を紫に染めるのも、旅をして知らない人に会うことも怖くないのです。以前は出来なかったような新しいことをやるのも。もう怖くないんです。だって私は乳がんと闘っています。そして、乳がんをやっつけるところなんですから。

筆者も乳がん患者でした。幸運なことに今はサバイバーのひとりです。飼い猫の頭が当たって痛かったことから、早期検査、早期発見につながりました。10月は Breast Cancer Awareness month 乳がん防止・検査月間です。大切な命と未来のために、ぜひ検査に行ってください。
