5月3日は、日本では憲法記念日ですが、この日は国連総会で定められた「World Press Freedom Day： 世界報道自由デー」でもあります。新型コロナウイルスのパンデミックの中、ますます大切になる報道の自由。言論弾圧や投獄、殺害の危険の中で協働することで記事を守ろうとするジャーナリストの話を聴いてください。

“Forbidden Stories”は、弾圧を受けたり、投獄されたり、殺されたりしたジャーナリストの仕事を引き継いで、必要な情報を世に出すために、世界のジャーナリストが作ったネットワークです。”Even if they kill the messenger, they can’t kill the message : 事実を伝える人を殺しても、事実を葬ることは出来ない”というのがモットー。創設者であるLaurent Richard さんの話を聴いて、（ ）の中を書き取ってください。
Collaboration can bring protection. It doesn’t make sense to kill ( 1 ) reporter if you have ( 2 ) reporters ( 3 ) to continue the work. I’m a journalist but I really was ( 4 ) to work alone to scoop the other ones and now we are doing exactly the ( 5 ) . We are sharing information, working together. コラボレーションすることは防護になります。その仕事を引き継ごうとする記者が45人いるのなら、１人の記者を殺すことに意味はなくなりますから。私はジャーナリストで、他を出し抜くために個人で仕事をする訓練を受けてきました。今はその正反対のことをやっているわけです。情報をシェアし、一緒に働いているのです。
“Forbidden Stories”が最初に取り組んだのは、マルタ島で2017年に殺されたジャーナリスト、Daphne Caruana Galizia ダフネ・カラナ・ガルチアさんのケースです。「ダフネプロジェクト」と呼ばれています。その部分を聴いて、（ ）の中を書き取ってください。

And if you kill a journalist, we, we, we will continue his or her work. もちろん、私たちがダフネプロジェクトを始めた時、強いシグナルを送ったと考えています。我々はここにいる、すぐに動ける。ひとりのジャーナリストを殺しても、我々がその仕事を引き継ぐというシグナルです。
The first forbidden story was about Daphne. We coordinated the work of 45 journalists to review a ( 8 ) number of files in a complete secrecy. 最初の”禁じられた記事” は、ダフネに関するものでした。我々は45人のジャーナリストと協働し、極秘で膨大な数のファイルを再調査しました。
When we started the Daphne project, we were having one team on the killing of Daphne but also we were having a team on all the stories that Daphne was working on, like the ( 9 ) of passport, on the energy sector on that island which is a member of European union. Collaboration can bring protection. It doesn’t make sense to kill one reporter if you have 45 reporters waiting to continue the work.
I’m a journalist but I really was trained to work alone to scoop the other ones and now we are doing exactly the opposite. We are sharing information, working together.
1. one 数字の表記の仕方の代表的なルールは、１から９までの数はスペルアウトするというもので、ここでは１reporter ではなく、one reporter と書かれているわけです。
2. 45 上記のルールに従い、10以上の数である45という数字を使っています。ただ、10以上の数でも文頭にくる場合はスペルアウトされます。cf. Eight copies are needed. 8枚のコピーが必要だ。
3. waiting 使役動詞のhave ＋目的語＋動詞ing という形の中でのwaiting です。目的語に来ているのは「45人の記者」で、その後の動詞が現在分詞だと、「進行中」というイメージになります。すぐ動けるように待機させているところだという感じです。
4. trained train （他動詞）訓練する、トレーニングするという動詞の受動態
5. opposite （名）反対、反対の物、逆 形容詞・前置詞も同形です。

By protecting and continuing the work of reporters who can no longer investigate, we can send a powerful signal to enemies of a free press: even if you succeed in stopping a single messenger, you will not stop the message. 調査を続けることが出来なくなった記者の仕事を守り、引き継ぐことで、報道の自由を抑圧する者に力強いシグナルを送ることが出来る。あなた達はひとりのメッセンジャーを殺すことは出来ても、その人が伝えようとしたメッセージを葬ることは出来ないのだ。
